A few decades ago the name that was on everybody’s lips when they discussed instant photography was Polaroid. They invented the concept and everybody loved them until the digital photography took over. For a while people were not interested in any kind of photography besides the new technology that allowed them to see the pictures before spending money on printing them and to take thousands of shots at no cost. However, during the last decade people became nostalgic so companies like Fujifilm hurried to fulfill their needs in a time when Polaroid was weaker than ever. Now both of the companies have some interesting models so it is not easy to choose which one is the best.
Polaroid released some great models, such as Polaroid Snap that takes great pictures at 10 megapixels and allows black and white and sepia mode. The camera costs about $100 and a pack of 50 film sheets about $25. Besides Snap, Polaroid took the instant photography into the digital era with its Socialmatic model. This camera allows users to save the pictures on a memory card and select which ones they want to print by seeing them on an LCD display. More than that, users can share their pictures on social networks and interact with their friends.
Fujifilm, on the other side, went for the young generation that never had a Polaroid. They made cameras that are simple to use and, the most important – fun. Instax film comes in a variety of models with fun designs from retro dots and stripes to Star Wars and Disney characters.
Camera models like Instax Mini 70 comes in a variety of bright colors, they have selfie functions with buttons that act like mirrors and other options considered cool nowadays.
But Fujifilm is also going for the nostalgic folks with its newest model, Instax Mini 90 – a camera that resembles the design of its old analogue X-series. This is a more serious camera, with many manual settings and a great quality of colors.
Both Polaroid and Fujifilm make interesting instant cameras. However, Polaroid’s attempt to incorporate the perks of digital photography into an instant camera has failed due to some problems with the battery. Thousands of clients complained that the camera cannot be recharged so many have lost their trust in the company and turned to their competitors.
